Roy Allan Nystrom “Swede”, 74, of Hammond, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 28, 1936 in Chicago the son of Elmer & Lucille Nystrom, graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1954 then served with the U. S. Army.  Roy began his career at Inland Steel before hiring on with Werth Furniture in Hobart where he served for over 30 years retiring as Warehouse Manager in 1987.  He was a member of the McKinley Masonic Lodge.  Roy was a dedicated family man who cherished his children and grandchildren.  He valued nothing more than the time they shared together.
On April 19, 1960 in Whiting he married Linda Misner who survives along with their four daughters: Lyn (David) Sowers of LaCrosse, Tracy (Joe) Hubbard of DeMotte, Tammy (Bob) Owczarzak of Lansing, IL, Debra Szczygielski (fiancé – Marc) of Valparaiso, brothers: Ron Nystrom of Dyer, Dennis Nystrom of Chicago Heights, step- parents, Ernest & Millie Chapman of Florida, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: August & William Nystrom.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with burial at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation Wednesday from 10 AM – 1 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
