William O. Reichard, 80, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 at Porter Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Janice and their children: Wendy R. Hammen, Davenport, IA, William W. (Barbara) Reichard of Northville, MI, and Thomas W. Reichard of Glenn, MI.  He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Kichline of Bethlehem, PA, his grandchildren: Kellie (James) Mowll, Jaime, Abby, and Emily Reichard; his nieces, Linda (John) Taylor and Susan Miller, and his nephew, David Miller.
Mr. Reichard was born September 3, 1929 in Bethlehem, PA the son of William E. & Naomi (Obert) Reichard.  He graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA in 1947 and received a B.A. in English from Moravian College in Bethlehem in 1951.  He married Janice E. Walton on September 12, 1952.  During the Korean War, Bill served with the U.S. Air Force at McCord Air Force base in Washington as a radar observer on an F-94.  Prior to his retirement in 1992, Bill’s 42 year career with Bethlehem Steel led his family to Buffalo, NY and Johnstown, PA before settling in Valparaiso as the District Transportation Manager, Burns Harbor, IN Plant.  Mr. Reichard was associated with the Union League Club of Chicago, The Traffic Club of Chicago, Calumet Traffic Club, Midwest Advisory Board Executive Committee, Great Lakes Carriers’ Association Board of Trustees, Board of Directors of Beth Tran, Inc., the Great Lakes Protective Association, Valparaiso Country Club, and Sand Creek Country Club.  He served as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso, several terms as a director of the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso.  In addition he was a past Master Counselor for Demolay in Bethlehem, PA and member of the Masonic Lodge.  Bill had a passion for golf trips and travel.  His family will always cherish the memories of their annual trip to Ocean City, NJ.  Bill’s even temper, casual smile and interest in others set a quiet example for all to follow.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 11th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church 3401 North Valparaiso Street with a memorial service immediately following.  Private burial of ashes will take place at Angelcrest Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso Foundation, First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso, or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
