Betty L. Izynski, 89, of Valparaiso passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. She was born May 18, 1928 in  Gary, IN to Ray M. & Cecelia (Johnson) Larson and graduated from East Gary Edison High School. Betty embraced her role as part of the “Greatest Generation” serving as a patriot extraordinaire, and never missing an election.  She was a longtime member and past president of Valparaiso Women’s Club, Merrillville Legion Auxiliary, Merrillville Business and Professional Women, Secretary of the Merrillville Centennial Committee, Valparaiso First Presbyterian Church where she attended Bible studies, volunteer at Banta Senior Center and Porter County Youth Service Bureau. Betty also was a passionate co-owner and operator of Hy-Speed Car Wash with her husband, Joe. Her hospitality and family celebrations were legendary along with her copious daily diary writing and the spontaneous sharing of her unfiltered opinions.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Joseph E. Izynski in 2006, their son Joseph Ralph Izynski, Sr. in 2015 and sister, Phyllis Larson. Survivors include their children: Lana (Larry) DeRolf of Valparaiso, Dr. Ronald (Linda) Izynski of Valparaiso, Joyce (Greg) Morris of Carmel, siblings: Raymond Larson, Ralph Larson, Sylvia Graham & Bess Megremis, grandchildren: Sherry Izynski, Joseph Izynski, Jr., Joyce Hanna, Chad Morris, Jason Morris, Jaclyn Seufer, Eric Izynski, Scott Izynski & Jonathon Morris,  13 great grandchildren and 19 nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2 – 7 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday at the funeral home with entombment following at Graceland mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso or the Salvation Army.
