William Kenneth Raines passed away in Valparaiso, Indiana, on Monday, May 15, 2017.  He was 95 years old.  Kenny was born on August 1, 1921 in Mayland, Tennessee.   He moved to Valpo in 1941 with his bride Opal (Bockman) Raines, who preceded him in death.  Kenny became an accomplished carpenter for Foster Lumber, and stayed with that company for half a century.  He was known as one of the best carpenters in town, and constructed or remodeled many homes and businesses in and around Valpo.  He and Opal were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Valparaiso.  Kenny served the church as a trustee.  He personally removed the stained glass windows from the previous church building on Lafayette St , and reinstalled them in the present church on N. Campbell St.  He also selected and oversaw the installation of the church steeple.  Kenny represented the greatest generation through hard work and honest living.  He is survived by his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Bruce Stirling of Boca Grande, Fl., and son Richard and daughter-in-law Arlene Raines of Lexington Park, Md.; grandchildren Andrew, Robert (Stirling), Matthew, and Michelle (Schamp); and seven great grandchildren. 
Visitation at First Baptist Church,  2205 Campbell St., Valparaiso, IN. at 10:00 am on Saturday May 20, 2017, and funeral to follow at 11:00 am.  Donations in Kenny’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Valparaiso and to the VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana .
