Ella Marie Cook, 75 of Westville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Sunday, November 22, 2020. She was born January 5, 1945 in Great Bend, Kansas to Woodrow and Marcella (Welsch) Wampler. Ellie May made her career as a cook at several locations throughout her life. She owned and operated her own restaurant, New York Subway, in Great Bend, and cooked for the Barton County Sheriff’s Department, before moving to Indiana and working in the kitchen at Kelsey’s Steak House in Portage, where she invented their honey butter. Ellie May also worked at Bennett Industries as a line worker, before her retirement. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, playing bingo, and going to the Blue Chip Casino. Ellie May will be remembered as a strong woman, who loved her family deeply. She will be missed by all who knew her.  On December 31, 1976 in Great Bend, Kansas, she married Russell Cook, who survives, along with her children: Melvin (Michelle) Miller of Kansas, Gary Miller of Kansas, Randel (Kim) Cook of Westville, IN; 24 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and siblings: Sonia Sittingdown, Woody Wampler, Eddie Wampler, and Sharon Morones. She was preceded in death by her parents; children: Thearon Miller and Carol Pierce; and sisters: Rosemary and Dorothy.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. Masks Required. Memorial donations may be made in Ellie May’s name to Dunes Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
