In Loving Memory of Cheryl Ann Bagnall
Cheryl Ann Bagnall, age 75, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 2, 1951, to Richard and Phyllis Hamrick, Cheryl lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, service, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
For 57 years, she shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Dale Bagnall. Together they built a loving family that includes their children, Brian (Teresa) Bagnall and Alicia (Terrance) Broussard; five cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Landon, Xander, Natalie, and Amelia; and two treasured great-grandchildren, Kyron and Nevaeh.
Cheryl dedicated her entire professional career to Valparaiso Community Schools as a Home Economics teacher, where she inspired generations of students with her knowledge, patience, and caring spirit. Beyond the classroom, she was actively involved in Kiwanis and 4-H, always finding ways to serve and uplift her community.
She was known for her many creative gifts—her award-worthy pies, beautiful quilts, intricate cross-stitching, and the countless baby blankets she lovingly knitted for NICU babies and prayer shawls she created for those facing illness. Even in her final days, Cheryl continued to give of herself through her craft and compassion. She took great pride in her flourishing gardens and beautiful yard, creating beauty wherever she went.
Above all, Cheryl was a caregiver. Whether caring for her children, grandchildren, parents, friends, or neighbors, she gave her heart freely and without hesitation. She was the loving wife, devoted daughter, nurturing mother, proud grandmother, faithful friend, and remarkable woman that we all aspire to be and are fortunate to have known.
Her love, generosity, and gentle spirit will remain with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Angelcrest Mausoleum Chapel at Angelcrest Cemetery, 180 E. 600 N., Valparaiso, IN. Funeral service and entombment will be private. The family requests no flowers please and instead offer a memorial donation in Cheryl’s name to Salem Church of Wanatah (memo: Sunday School), 302 S. My deepest condolences for family. I will always remember Aunt Cheryl for her tireless devotion to her parents, kids and students. She was raised with an extraordinaire work ethic. She could always be counted on and wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult situations with her strength and values that guided her. She was a master of the home front arts passed from generations of smart, talented women. She has left a phenomenal legacy in her daughter and nieces who learned and admired her 4:00am sunrise walks, dry toast and grapefruit breakfast, and an afternoon check-in on her parents. I send my heart felt condolences to the family. There are a couple of teachers that stand out for all that I have taken with me through the years and she is at the top of the list. Mrs Bagnall will be remembered by myself and I’m sure other students whom learned the very things we need day to day in life. I will always remember cooking, crochetings, sewing, learning the very things that we all use to this very day in our lives and our children’s lives. In this day in age where computers and Cell phones have engulfed one on one communication Mrs Bagnall was a soul in talking with you and having heartfelt conversations that made you feel you matter and are important no matter what. One of my greatest joys was to have a dear friendship with Cheryl for over 60 years. We always lived in different states but as children attended the same church where we sat together, only if we were good, participated in Ruby Hamrick’s music programs, and often spent the afternoons, birthdays, and holidays at each others homes. As adults we shared cards and hand written letters from our homes in Indiana and California. . Cheryl loved writing about her family and dog Abby. She was so proud of their children and grandchildren. Cheryl had so many hobbies and projects where she gave graciously to others. She was the ultimate care giver. Teaching with Cheryl for a few years I have to say she was one of the best. She worked as hard with students who had trouble navigating their VHS classes as she did with honor students. I sat in on her “sex ed” classes. Her professionalism was so commendable. Her sense of humor was a real asset. I wish I had known her better personally after she retired. My Condolences to the family and friends of Cheryl Ann Bagnall. I am a 2nd cousin to Cheryl, her father Richard Hamrick being my First Cousin. His father, Jess Hamrick and my father, Samuel Hamrick were brothers. Cheryl was a beautiful lady, I remember her at the 2016 Hamrick Reunion at the Sportsman Club, Willshire, Ohio.We corresponded by letters after the reunion until she took ill. Oh, dear Dale... deepest sympathy to you and all the Bagnall family. Yes, the two of you built a fabulous family and I am so grateful that I had the pleasure of meeting many of your family members. Dale - I found out about the passing of Cheryl Monday evening. I am so sorry that cancer took another good person away from their loving spouse. I got acquainted with Cheryl by sitting with her during her folks various operations at the hospital. She would talk to me while crocheting at the same time. It thrilled my heart to see how much she loved her parents. I pray that the Lord will give you comfort as you morn her death. Mrs Bagnall was a very lovely lady. She taught me how to make a skirt and taught me how to bake chocolate chip cookies. She was so sweet as an instructor back in 1987 and I was blessed to come full circle in her life and care for her during her treatments more recently.
