David B. Spitler, 74, of Valparaiso passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born July 12, 1952, in Valparaiso to Mann & Imo (Ferguson) Spitler, Jr, and graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1970. David began his career in the insurance field with New York Life before founding and co-owning Four Seasons Insurance from 1985 – 2025. David was a member of Valparaiso First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and was on the building and grounds committee. He also served on the Board of Directors of Opportunity Enterprises for 10 years. Another avenue in which he gave back to the community, a virtue instilled by his parents was his 14-year involvement in the Stephen Ministry. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling, especially to the National Parks. His penchant for collecting gadgets spanned his lifetime and seemed to emphasize flashlights and pen knives. He always kept a “dad joke” ready for every occasion, putting a smile on even the sourest of curmudgeons faces and then laughing himself.
On October 5, 1985. he married Kathleen Bailey who survives along with their daughter, Brooke (Kalan) Spitler-Nigh of Valparaiso, and sister, Barbara Spitler of Valparaiso. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Susan Spitler and brother, Mann Spitler, III.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29th from 3 – 7 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 30th beginning at 10:30 am at Valparaiso First Presbyterian Church 3401 Valparaiso St., Valparaiso with Rev. Kimberlee Adams officiating and burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Opportunity Enterprises.
