Dorothy Arlene Wilson, 93 of Kouts, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026. She was born September 24, 1932, in Cullom, IL, to the late George Clifford Schoon and Freda (Hack) Schoon. Arlene graduated from Kouts High School, class of 1950. She made her career with Farm Service Agency in Valparaiso for over 40 years, and retired as Director in 1996. Arlene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kouts, where she had been active in the choir. You could often find Arlene at home cleaning and organizing, which were some of her favorite things to do. She was kind and caring to everyone she met, and will be remembered for her love of family. Arlene will be dearly missed.
Arlene is survived by her brother, Donald (Carolyn) Schoon of Kouts; nieces and nephews: John (Anna) Schoon, Bruce Schoon, Russell (Nancy) Schoon, Kim (John) Haggerty, Rhonda (Brent) Gingerich, and Matthew (Lisa) Schoon; and many loving extended family members, including her special grandson, Harry “Shorty” (Janet) Williams. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Wilson; second husband, Sam Lawson; brother, Merle Schoon; sister-in-law, Phyllis Schoon-Misch; nephew, David Schoon; and great niece, Amanda Schoon.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 507 S. Rose Avenue, Kouts, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Arlene’s name to St. Paul Lutheran Church or March of Dimes.
