Merri A. Corneil, 76 of Michigan City, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home with family on Monday, August 31, 2026. She was born January 4, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois to Bernard & Alice Redmon. Merri loved to play cards, especially “Phase 10”, take long car rides, and hopefully arrive at Dairy Queen somewhere along the way for ice cream. Eating out was always better than cooking at home, it just seemed to taste better when someone else did the cooking. Her short list of favorite television programs included, The Price is Right, Golden Girls, COPS, Chicago Fire, and The Rookies. Merri wanted to be in the know about all of the goings on within the family and the community. Some even described her as being nosy, but she made up for it by being a prolific hugger. She seemed to have a hug ready in her hip pocket for any and every occasion.
On November 8, 1972, Merri married Ronald E. Corneil, who preceded her in death in 2015. She is survived by their daughters: Amy Corneil (Ted Wheeler) of Michigan City & Allison (Roger) Byars of Portage, grandson, Tyler Scott, brother, Mike Redmon, and her loyal and loving canine, “Trish”. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Joe, Jackie, Barbara, Pete, Cathy, Judy, Joyce & Stanley.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 3rd from 10 am – 12 noon at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon and burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family.
