R. Ted Hitz, 92, of Kouts passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was born May 4, 1934, to Emil & Esther (Marty) Hitz and graduated from High School in 1952. Ted made his career as a professional photographer for 40 years having owned and operated Hitz Photography in Kouts. Ted was known to enjoy bowling, mowing his lawn, and taking long drives anywhere his heart desired. The cookouts he hosted for family and friends became legendary mostly due to his ability to grill the perfect hamburger. And of course, there’s the Cubs. Ted’s life wouldn’t have been complete without them.
On November 20, 1954, he married the love of his life, Audrey Adell Martens who preceded him in death on January 17, 2018. Survivors include their children: Nancy Wood of LaPorte & Dan (Sandy) Hitz of Michigan City, grandsons: Christopher (Sabrina) Wood & Curtis Wood, and great-granddaughters: Camille & Hope. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Hitz, son-in-law, Douglas Wood, brothers, Leonard & Jerry Hitz, and brother-in-law, Merlin Martens.
A committal service will be held Saturday, August 29th, 9:00 am at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts.
