On August 10, 2026, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Raymundo L. Billena Jr., M.D. passed away at the age of 82. He was born on September 27, 1943, in Fabrica Sagay, Philippines to Raymundo and Natividad (Lachica) Billena.
Raymundo attended University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine in the Philippines and later moved to the United States, where he married Teodora “Quita” Fajardo on September 9, 1969. After 40 years of practice as a Family Medicine specialist in Merrillville, Indiana, Raymundo retired in 2015.
Besides being an avid tennis and golf fan, Raymundo enjoyed gardening and cooking for his family. He especially loved traveling with his family and friends, which inspired him to take countless photographs. His compassionate nature could be found in both his bedside manner and his own home.
Raymundo’s accomplished life is celebrated by his devoted wife, Quita, and their four children: Rodney (Nina) Billena of Chicago, IL; Darren (Maribel) Billena of Lincoln, CA; Dennis (Beth) Billena of Bedford Park, IL; and Raymond (Rhea) Billena of Manila, Philippines, nine grandchildren: RJ, Emily, Madeline, Max, Keilee, Darcy, Royce, Caitlin, and Rylie, and his siblings: Jesse Billena, Alice Castro, Idabell Billena, Adolfo (Jo Ann) Billena, and Cezar (Christine) Billena.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Indiana. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 17th, beginning at 10:00 AM directly at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 509 W Division Road, Valparaiso, Indiana 46385. I was deeply shocked to learn of his liver cancer diagnosis and saddened to hear that he passed away so soon. He was such a warm and friendly person, a loving and devoted husband to his dear wife Quita and a doting grandfather to his bright and wonderful grandchildren. He also had a true green thumb—his love and care for plants brought so much life and beauty to their welcoming home.
