Roger Duane Burns, 85 of Union Mills, formerly of Hanna, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He was born April 25, 1941, in Wolf Lake, IN, to Roland and Bernice (Orcutt) Burns. Roger grew up on a farm in Larwill, IN, and graduated from Larwill High School in 1959. He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years. Among other duties, he served as a military policeman. Roger went on to a career as a lineman with NIPSCO for 28 years. Roger could often be found outdoors, enjoying time fishing, bee keeping, gardening, raising his animals, mushroom hunting, and birdwatching, especially bluebirds and purple martins. He also had fun looking for bargains at thrift stores, and taking spontaneous trips to new places. Roger will be remembered as a person of deep conviction with strong beliefs, the mentality of a natural leader, and a diligent worker and problem solver. He attended Hanna United Methodist Church and put his trust in Jesus as his Savior. Roger was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
On August 20, 1967, Roger married the love of his life, Nancy Tschantz, who survives, along with their daughters: Linda (Tim) Chipman of Winfield, IL, and Dawn (Bex Miller) Burns of Lansing, MI; grandchildren: Daniel, Olivia, John, and Joseph Chipman, and Elliot and Lux Comer; and siblings: Betty (Max) Buckles, JoAnn (Dale) Fryback, and Norman Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister, Jane.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hanna United Methodist Church, 101 W. Hopper St. Hanna, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Hanna Cemetery.

Matthew 25:14–30 Roger was a productive worker. "Well done, good and faithful servant“. God will reward a person who used their time, skills, and resources wisely to honor Him during their life.
