Sharon Doms, 91 of Hanna, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Tucson, Arizona. Sharon was born on August 10, 1934, in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Leroy and Hope (Hutchins) Spindler. Sharon grew up with four sisters and had fond memories of being outdoors and exploring nature. Sharon attended Coolspring Grade School and later graduated from Westville High School. At both schools, she made lifelong friendships that endured time. She met and married Richard “Dick” Doms from Hanna, Indiana. They were married for nearly 70 years and raised four children together.

Sharon was known for her great sense of humor and zest for life. She was an avid reader and wonderful storyteller. She published her first children’s book, A Friend for Bernice, when she was 88 years old. This was particularly special to her as it also included her sister, Nancy Gooding, as the illustrator. Sharon enjoyed building dollhouses, performing in little theater, and collecting antiques. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was proud to be called “GiGi.”

She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Doug) Sharp of Lincolnton, NC, Jeff (Janet) Doms of Hanna, Joel (Donna) Doms of Hanna, Jill (Steve) Scheckel of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Tony Doms, Nick Doms, Jessica Leazenby, Derek Doms, Jordan Doms, and Marlee Doms; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; and her grandson, Joshua Theiss.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Hanna United Methodist Church, 101 W. Hopper St., Hanna, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Randy Schrock officiating. Burial will follow at Hanna Cemetery.
