William Jack Boyd, 77, of Kouts passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. He was born December 27, 1948, to Jack G. & MaryAnne (Glinski) Boyd, graduated from Highland High School in 1967, and served proudly with the U.S. Army Reserves. Bill made his career for over 40 years with Nipsco, beginning as a lineman, transitioning to the mechanical maintenance department, then concluding as an Operator at the Schaeffer Generating Station in Wheatfield where he retired in 2009.
Bill coached his kids’ sports teams during their youth, was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, and had enjoyed antique shopping with his wife, Nancy. His mechanical skills were always welcomed around the house, being able to fix nearly any problem that arose. But it was his affinity for Western movies and television productions that helped define his personality. Having shared the same name with the actor who portrayed Hop-A-Long Cassidy may have provided some of his incentive, and a brief moment of fame at a Western convention.
On June 14, 1980, he married Nancy M. Szopa who preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include their children: Erin Boyd of Michigan, Dan Boyd of Kouts, mother, MaryAnne Marks of Hanna, siblings: Jack (Cecelia) Boyd, Kim (Lance) Husmann, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also preceded in death by his father, Jack G. Boyd, siblings: Robert Boyd, Theresa Goral & Nancy Myers, and stepfather, Bill Marks.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 27th from 12 noon – 2 pm at Kosanke Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Kouts with funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm and burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
