Brian L. Erickson, 56 of Valparaiso, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. He was born on March 14, 1967 in Hammond, IN to Arthur and Colette (Grimmer) Erickson and graduated from Portage High School in 1985. He made his career as a fabricator and welder for Cleveland Cliffs (formerly ArcelorMittal) of East Chicago. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1010 and formerly a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 20. If you knew Brian, you were often on the receiving end of his hilarious and sometimes dark humor jokes. He was highly opinionated, commenting on any and everything. Making people laugh and feel accepted and loved was who he was at his core. While he had 2 children of his own, he was seen as a father figure to many. If you could not find Brian, chances are he was on a spontaneous adventure, going camping or fishing. Above all, Brian was a devoted family man, spending time enjoying many a road trip and vacations to places such as Jamaica, Florida, and most recently, Alaska.
On September 29, 1990, Brian married Susan Foss, who survives, along with their children, Alison Erickson and Cody (fiancé Candice Taylor) Erickson; beloved dogs, Stewart “Stewie” and Otto; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Noreen Foss; sister-in-law, Pam Foss; many loving nieces and nephews; and siblings, Diana Kirtland and Lance Erickson. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Arthur and Colette.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN.

Arlen and I can't tell you how sorry we are for the whole family and friends. I told him once after laughing at some goofy story of his that he was the "KING of the smirk and sarcastic comment" and to wear the crown proudly.. Sending my sincerest sympathies to Brian's Family. For Sue, I cannot imagine how shocking and sad such a loss must feel. For his children, it is truly a dark day when you lose your Dad. I am so sorry you have lost him so young. For Diana and Lance, I hope you can find comfort in your memories. I remember growing up, family get togethers, and fun when you all visited us in Florida. Good Times! One of my favorite memories of little Brian, probably 7 or 8 years old, when I sat him down in front of my stereo, put the headphones on him, and played some music where the sound travels back and forth, maybe Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
