Thomas K. Barber, 68, of Portage passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was born June 26, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio to Thomas & Mildred (Vanek) Barber, graduated from Portage High School in 1973 and attended Purdue University. Tom made his career as an engineer with the Penn Central Railroad and Norfolk & Southern Railroad for 42 years having begun his initial employment at age 18. While Tom may have enjoyed fishing in the pond near his home on occasion, it was the NFL football season that he relished, spending time with his friends at the local watering hole. His canine companions, “Lightning”, “Bear, & “Baby” also brought him hours of entertainment and enjoyment, but “Thunder” proved incorrigible.
On July 17, 2017, he married Kelly Dusendang who survives along with his sister, Bonnie (Roger) Niksch of Hobart, niece, Pamela (Scott) Abraham & nephew, Daniel (Jennifer) Niksch both of Crown Point, and great nieces & nephews; Zander, Parker, Tyson, Noelle, Grayson & Kyler. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory a private family celebration of Tom’s life will be held.
