Samuel J. Rosenfeld, 96 of Wanatah, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. He was born on February 9, 1927 in Elkhart, IN and proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was affectionately known around town as “Sam the phone man” and made his career as an Installer/Repairman for GTE for 40 years before retiring. Sam was a member of the VFW Post 748 in Knox, American Legion Post 403 in Wanatah, and the Banta Center in Valparaiso. He spent his time hunting, fishing, and taking care of his son and daughter-in-law’s horses.
In November of 1948, Samuel married Betty Porter, who preceded him in death in 2014. He is survived by their children: Ronald (Anita) Rosenfeld, Roger Rosenfeld, and Melody (Al) Dukes; grandchildren: Sean (Monica) Rosenfeld, Kylee (Kevin) Grieger, Aaron (Kerri) Rosenfeld, Jason (Keith) Sly, and Megan (Aaron) Damrill; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Rosenfeld; and sons, Steven and Allen Rosenfeld.
In honoring Sam’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
