Eleanor Clare Stein, 95 of Valparaiso passed away Friday, February 2, 2024. She was born May 14, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Christopher and Martha (Pitzold) Stein. Eleanor made her career as an accountant for the Catholic Relief Services of New York. Prior to moving to Valparaiso, she lived in Palm Springs, CA, where she had many treasured friendships. She loved to travel and was able to visit many destinations worldwide. Eleanor was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso and the Valparaiso Country Club. An avid knitter, she found enjoyment in knitting and donating baby hats for hospitals and was a member of the Banta Center Knitting Club.
Eleanor is survived by her cousin, Alice Ann (Edward) James; close family friends, Steve and Lori Ridgway, Crystal and Lonnie Chabes, Jr., Tammy and Daniel Reynolds, and Kristina and Tyler Lavery; adoptive granddaughter, London Chabes; numerous friends; and her precious dog, Mollie.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Queen of Apostles Chapel in St. Paul Catholic Church 1855 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at St. Charles Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 1140 W Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60607.
