Karon Kay Landgrebe, 81, of Morgan Township passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the VNA Hospice Center. She was born January 27, 1943, in Miami, Florida to Reuben & Kathren (Bohres) Wicklund and graduated from Miami Edison High School. In her later years she found meaning in her knitting by creating helmet liners that were donated to those in the military for comfort. And she collected a trove of Janet Evanovich detective novels which she read ravenously.
Karon made her career as a special education paraprofessional in the Porter County schools beginning at S.E.L.F., then Parkview Elementary in Valparaiso and finishing at Morgan Township Schools. She taught herself Braille in order to assist her sight impaired students in their studies. Karon loved nothing more than helping these children.
She married a handsome U.S. Sailor named John Landgrebe that was staying in her Miami neighborhood following a somewhat chance encounter when his planned date failed to arrive. They had 2 sons together, Robert Glenn (Cheryle) Landgrebe of South Chicago Heights, Illinois and John Landgrebe of Morgan Township, grandchildren; Krystal Shinall, Brandon (Kira) Landgrebe, Cathryn Landgrebe & Shelbie Landgrebe, and great-grandchildren; Carson, Ava, Elijah, Evan & Wesley. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held at Moeller Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20th from 10 am – 12 noon with memorial service beginning at 12:00 noon and burial to follow at Blachly Cemetery, Valparaiso. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of NWI or Hobart Humane Society.

Karen was an outstanding lady and will be missed! I learned a couple things about her through this obituary. One of the many memories I have is Karen and John were visiting our place in Inverness Florida while the Chase for OJ Simpson was on TV! RIP my cousin. -Audrey Whitley
Karon was our cousin but she really was another sister. We shared many things together growing up and continued them into adulthood. Playing cards, games and trips. We will miss talking too and visiting with her. -Susan Hansen
