Rodney Lee Daumer, Sr., 71 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was born December 24, 1952, in Hammond, IN, to the late Robert W. Daumer, Sr. and Mary E. (Anderson) Daumer. Rodney graduated from Hammond Technical High School in 1971, where he played on the football team. He went on to work as a Crane Technician with T & M Equipment for over 20 years before he was forced into early retirement after developing epilepsy following a stroke. For the past 15 years, Rodney has been a landlord in Northwest Indiana. He was a hard worker for his entire career and enjoyed his various jobs. When he wasn’t working, Rodney enjoyed boating, water skiing, watching sports, and listening to professional sports radio daily. He was a proud family man who loved spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. Rodney became a single father who raised four children and two of his grandchildren on his own. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Rodney was a no-nonsense man most of the time, but he was also a jokester who could make you laugh. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, who will be dearly missed.
Rodney is survived by his children: Brandee (Paul Tschoepe) Daumer of Ada, OK, Robert “Bobby” Daumer of Valparaiso, IN, and Rodney Daumer, Jr. of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Manuel (Andrea), Emilio, Izabella, and Ezekiel; great-grandchildren: Hera, Amadeus, Melody, Evelyn, Aaliyah, and Carlito; sister, Eva “Peg” (Marc) Witwer; and close friends, Ramone and Pete. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Anne “Maria” Leho; brother, Robert “Butch” Daumer; and sister, Beverly “Bev” Sopiarz.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
