Carol Linn Marks, 81, of Wanatah passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was born September 10, 1942, in LaPorte to Edward & Verna (Kutkiewicz) Maack and graduated as valedictorian from Wanatah High School in 1960. Carol made her career as a teller with Farmers State Bank and then Indiana Federal both in Valparaiso for many years. She finished her working years as a dedicated employee at the Wanatah Public Library. A lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ cemented faith and secular relationships, and what seemed like a lifetime as a Poll Worker at every election in LaPorte County for decades cemented her sense of civic responsibility. Carol tackled and mastered nearly every handcrafting skill imaginable. For many years she gathered with an intimate group of lady friends each month for “Girls’ Day” outings that were as varied as their imaginations, and she loved it! Some of these relationships went back to pre-school Sunday school classes at Salem Church.
On January 25, 1964, she married Edward Marks who survives along with their children; Cheryl (Chris) Sarafin of Morgan Township & Darrell (Carolyn) Marks of Wanatah, and granddaughters: Elizabeth (Carson) Opela, Katherine & Gabriella Sarafin, Emma & Lillie Marks. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, LeRoy Shurte.
A private service was held at Salem Church in Wanatah with burial at Salem Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Salem Handbell Choir.
