Roy Gilbert Moutaw, Jr., 83, of Valparaiso passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 26, 2024. He was born June 11, 1941, in Chicago to Roy G. & Mildred (Swaney) Moutaw, graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1959, received a B.A. from Purdue University in 1964 where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and a Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1977. Roy’s career took him from service with the Porter County Sheriff’s Police 1971 -89, to the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office, and concluded as a defense attorney with James Tsoutsouris Law Office. He was very proud to have been a founder of the Valpo Americans youth sports organization in 1969 to help combat the negative patriotism then being promoted in regard to the Vietnam War. Roy also enjoyed membership with Porter Lodge #137 F&AM, and First Christian Church of Valparaiso.
Survivors include his children; Erika Wynne (John), Kristen Ashley, Roy G. Moutaw, III of all of Arizona, Christopher Moutaw (Fernanda) of Valparaiso & Jessica Peter (Sean) of North Carolina, siblings; Bruce Moutaw (Carmella) & Ruth Summers, and grandchildren: Jill, Karen, Joao & Christopher, Jr. “George”.
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 3rd from 11am – 1 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with memorial service beginning at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the American Renal Center.

We are so glad that we got to meet and know Roy. The couple of time we got to spend with him, we enjoyed his company so very much. It was obvious the love between Roy and his daughter is beyond grand. Roy was a wonderful father to Jess and she was a wonderful daughter to him. Such a joy to see and fell the love between father and daughter. A true love that never ends. God has Roy now; rest in peace, Roy. We are so fortunate to have met you.
