Mary A. McCasland, (USN-LCDR), 78 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, following a long battle with cancer. She was born October 3, 1945, in St. Louis County, MO, to the late Gerald R. and Ann C. (Underwood) McCasland. Mary graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1963, and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1968 from Valparaiso University. She proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968-1988 as a Commissioned Officer, mostly in the Pentagon and Hawaii. Mary received an honorable discharge and retired as Lieutenant Commander. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening and working at H&R Block, until her health left her homebound.
Mary is survived by her siblings: Donald (Phyllis) McCasland of Klamath Falls, OR, Robert (Sharon) McCasland of Valparaiso, IN, Sarah McCasland of Valparaiso, IN, Richard (Celia) McCasland of Aloha, OR; nieces: Maria McCasland, Barbara Taylor, Melissa Ofman, and Rebecca Barach; and 6 great-nieces and nephews.
Per Mary’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Dunes Hospice.
