Richard E. White, 84 of Valparaiso, passed away, Sunday, October 27, 2024. He was born July 27, 1940 in Valparaiso to Kenneth S. and Mary Marie (Monroe) White. A graduate of Valparaiso High School, Richard served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. Over his 20 years in the Army, he earned several commendations and medals which include, National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Campaign Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Run Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Bronze Star Medals, 4 Overseas Service Bars, and RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm. After retiring from active duty, he served 20 years civil service between Fort Campbell Military Base and the United States Postal Service. Richard was a member of the VFW Post 988, serving as Post Commander for 3 years, the American Legion Post 94, and the Eagles 2517, all of Valparaiso. He enjoyed camping, driving his golf carts with his dog by his side, serving his military community, and spending time with his loved ones.
Richard is survived by his children, Rickie (Tracy) Jones, Jonnie (Kathy) Jones, and Scott (Carolyn) Heinold; son-in-law, John Moloney; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Barb Pierce, Robert White, Charlie (Debbie) White, Larry (Diane) White, Ron White, Tom (Pam) White, and Lori (Duane) Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Freedom. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 25 years, Edith Jones in 1995; second wife of 25 years, Gloria Heinold in 2016; daughter, Theresa Moloney; sisters, Peggy Zeman and Sharon Gorub; and his dogs, Zach, Pepper, and Hersey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service on Monday, November 4th at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Post 988, American Legion Post 94 or the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 2517.
