Deborah Sue Miller, 75, of Kouts passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born February 19, 1949, in Valparaiso to Lee & Mary (nee Haschel) Kistler and graduated from Boone Grove High School. Deborah began her career as an Aide with the Porter County VNA before transitioning to Opportunity Enterprises where she became a beloved instructional aide for many years. She enjoyed creating all varieties of specialty crafts which were of a quality that warranted an exhibit at the Porter County Library. Always a lover of animals, she welcomed a parade of cats into her home over the years creating a symbiotic relationship enjoyed by all. Her passion for women’s rights may well have been her hallmark, and proudly so.
Survivors include her son, Jason (Veronica) Rhynard of Wanatah, former husband, Richard Miller and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Krista Rhynard, brothers, James Kistler & Lester (Maryanne) Kistler, and former husband, Les Rhynard. Memorial donations may be made to Fried’s Cat Shelter, Michigan City, in OR The Independent Cat Shelter, Westville, IN.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 27th from 12:30 – 2 pm at Kosanke Funeral Home, Kouts with funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm and burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts.
