Preceded in death by parents, Chris and Katherine Niess; wife, Janet Niess; and son, Chris Niess. Survived by children: Nancy (Terry) Costello of St. Petersburg, Fl; Craig (Kathy) Niess of Shaker Heights, OH; Melissa Niess of Indianapolis, IN; Susan Niess of Painesville, OH; Amber Manibusan of Valparaiso, IN; and Sarah Bird of Westmont, IL; grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, and Matthew Niess; Caroline and Claire Niess; Michael, Chase, and Cecily Manibusan; and Gloriana Bird.

Graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY.

Proudly served as a Combat Correspondent in the United States Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged.

Graduated from University of Dayton with Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.

Worked at the Chicago Division of Exhibit Group based out of Cleveland, OH until he retired.

Pioneered the Chicago Baseball Museum, Negro League Baseball Museum, Milan '54 Museum, and Mascot Hall of Fame.

Member of American Legion Post 777, FBI Citizens Academy, Kentucky Colonels, and National Association of Accountants.

Ron loved watching the news with his beloved dog, Chico, and doting on his many grandchildren, near and far. His door was always open, and his fridge was always filled with drinks and snacks that he would share with his many visitors, all of whom were family to him, especially his dear friend Ron.
