Ewell Gene Dunivant, 80 of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 14, 1944 in Cornersville, TN to Preston “Jack” and Lucille (Allen) Dunivant. Gene made his career in the paint department at Ford Motor Company working from 1965 to 1995. After a few years of retirement, he went back to work at the Porter County Expo Center in 1999 and retired in 2019. Gene was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Valparaiso. His friends and family will remember his humor, love for animals, and his passion for cars, especially his 1970 Chevy Chevelle Malibu. Gene was a founding member of R-Rides, where many friendships were made, and several charity car shows were held to support local animal shelters and rescues. Above all else, Gene loved spending time with his family.
On February 22, 1986, Gene married Sharon Bugajski who survives along with his daughters, Niki (Dale) Lesniewski, Rhonda (Jeff) Wilson, and Cammie Benson; grandchildren, Dale, Jennifer, Stefphanie, and Matt; great grandson, Nolan; sister, Peggy (Joe) Perez; nephew, Jimmy (Crystal) Humphrey; and niece, Sherri Humphrey-Beauchamp; and many cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dog, Cash.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with Visitation to follow from 2:00-6:00 PM. Cremation will take place at Angelcrest Crematory and a private burial of ashes will take place in Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local animal shelter or rescue of choice.
