Larry Dean Pifer, 84 of Valparaiso and formerly of Flora, IN and Roseville, MI, passed away at his home, Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was born January 30, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Carl and Marion (Swift) Pifer. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Larry served on the USS McLean as an assistant to the commanding officer. Following his service in the Navy, he began his 38-year career at MAG Industries in Michigan. Larry was a member of the Flora First Christian Church and attended the Valparaiso First Christian Church D.O.C. While residing in Flora he was very active in the church, serving as an elder and in many other ministries of the church. He enjoyed fishing and sports, cheering for the Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings. For those that knew Larry, they will remember him for being a gentleman, his great sense of humor, his love of family, and being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
On October 20, 1962, Larry married Mary Jane Craig, who preceded him in death and on February 23, 2004 he married Arlene Smith who survives along with his children, Rebecca Jane (Bob) Ashman and Craig Aaron Pifer; daughter-in-law, Christine Pifer; step children, Christian (Teresa) Craig, Jana (Jake) Craig-Wilcox, and Joshua (Denise) Craig; grandchildren, Nicholas (Samantha) Stephens, Amanda (Adam) Mazur-Baker, Jacob (Becca) Pifer, J.D. (Carmela) Pifer, April Hubbard, Aaron Pifer, and Saphyre Pifer, step grandchildren, Alyson (Joey) Rodriguez, Rachael (Amir) Craig, Jaelyn Craig, Gabriel Craig, Naomi Mendoza, and Greysyn Craig; six great grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Fleury. He was also preceded in death by his son, Carl Pifer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Christian Church D.O.C. 1507 Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso at a later date this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flora First Christian Church, 8 E South St. Flora, IN 46929 or First Christian Church D.O.C. of Valparaiso, IN.
