Georgiana Alfreda Batey, 88, of Valparaiso passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the VNA Hospice Center. She was born November 5, 1936, in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Urban W. & Alfreda (nee Carlson) Johnson. Georgiana loved her Lord very much and enjoyed serving Him with worship. She shared that love through singing with a trio called the “King Songbirds” and sang many duets with her husband and served for many decades for her church playing piano and organ.
On August 28, 1965, she married Dwight A. Batey who preceded her in death in 2014. Survivors include their children: Michael Batey of Colorado, Matthew Batey of Kouts, Melissa (Brian) Nelson of Valparaiso & Dennis (Sandie) Partridge of Michigan, grandchildren: Abigail (David) Brubaker, Brecken Long, Elizabeth Nelson, Haleigh Batey, Madyson Dibkey, Sarah, Josiah, Sam & Bella Batey, Ellen Partridge, Tiffanie (Zeke) Potter & Mikaela Partridge, and great-grandchildren: Tyson Dibkey, Aaron, Joanna & Adelynn Brubaker, Joshua, Jayden & Micah Potter. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Gail Batey her parents, and four brothers.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 22nd from 10 am – 12 noon at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon, Pastor Jerry Grafton officiating and burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. Memoria donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of NWI.

My condolences to the family for their loss. I remember Georgiana from many years ago when she and Dwight attended Glenwood Bible Church. I remember her beautiful smile and I always loved hearing her sing with the King’s Songbirds. She brought joy to so many. -Nanci Crawford
