Marilynn Jean Lockhart, 92, of Porter County, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025. She was born March 5, 1933, in Crown Point to the late Enno and Lora Lorene (Clark) Sager. Jean graduated from Merrillville High School in 1951, and was instrumental in starting the girls’ basketball team, of which she was a standout player. Jean retired after 25 years with Montgomery Wards, where she worked as a catalog office manager. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wanatah. Jean looked forward to spending winters with her husband in Winter Haven, FL. She also enjoyed playing volleyball, bowling, and golfing. When it came to sports and games, Jean was very competitive, and offered the advice to “lose with a smile” to her grandchildren. She was well-known for her comforting arm and ear tickles, and her extra loud cheers from the stands when she supported her children and grandchildren in their many activities. Jean loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, who remember sleepovers, going to church, trips to the Frost Top Drive-In, and McDonald’s for ice cream with extra hot fudge. Jean instilled in her children her strong-will, toughness, and love for Jesus. She had a fun and feisty personality, which meant you always had a good time when you were with her. Jean will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
On May 7, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crown Point, Jean married H.
