William G. Baltas, 100, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. He was born January 29, 1925, in Hammond, IN to the late Gregory and Mary Baltas. Bill proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He went on to a career as a self-employed Plumber with Baltas Corporation, and retired as a Plumbing Inspector in Hobart at age 94. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a Past President of Local 433 Plumbers, a member of the VFW McKinley Lodge 712, and Orak Shriner’s International. He enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds and other outdoor animals, working on his house, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
On September 5, 1987, Bill married Martha Neal, who preceded him in death in 2019. He is survived by his daughters: Mary (Phillip) Hill, Cathy (Earl) McDonald, Donna Baltas, Christine (Ian) Arthur; stepchildren: Kathie (Phillip) DeRuiter, Sherie (Daniel) Breitenbach, and Neal (Deborah) Heffernan; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 3401 N. Valparaiso St., Valparaiso, IN, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial of ashes will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glenwood Academy, 500 West 187th St., Glenwood, IL 60425.
