Edward J. Behling, 101, of Portage, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away at 11:15 A.M., Monday, July 14, 2025, in his home. Edward was born March 24, 1924, in Hammond, IN to Edward Behling and Elsie Galinsky and was a lifelong resident of Indiana. He was a 1943 graduate of Hammond Technical Vocational High School. Edward was a World War II Army Veteran. He retired in 1986 from Gil Behling and Sons, where he was employed for 41 years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union.
September 21, 1946, in Hammond, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, he married Zoe Irene Scott, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sons, Edward C. (Janet) Behling of Hobart, IN, Jeffery (Andy Dudeck) Behling of Valparaiso, IN, and James (Patricia) Behling of Cedar Lake, IN; two grandchildren, Kristin (Eliott) Duy, and Connie (Michael) Ramirez; and one great-grandchild, Eli Duy. Edward was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gilbert (Irene) Behling of Hammond, IN, and Raymond (Rose Mary) Behling of Hammond, IN, and one sister, Esther (Richard) Evans of Oakland, CA.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2201 Azalea Drive, Highland, IN, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ in his memory.

Behling Family; We are so sorry to hear about Mr. Behling. I never meet him but Travis his lawn man,would come home and tell me about what they talked about that day sitting in the garage after he mowed. Travis really cared about him. Condolences to all of the Behling family. I saw a side of Ed when he was helping my Dad remodel the Lake Home in Michigan. It was something to her him talk outside of church.
