Fredrick J. Matuszak, 77, of Wanatah passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025. He was born August 4, 1948, in Michigan City, Indiana to Chester & Winifred (Shawley) Matuszak and graduated from South Central High School in 1966. Fred made his career as a union electrician for over 45 years with I.B.E.W. Local #531.
Fred was a longtime 4-H volunteer serving as the superintendent of their LaPorte County Goat Project for many years. He loved teaching children and being around their youthful enthusiasm. This educational talent also drew him into the I.B.E.W. apprenticeship program as an instructor which may have officially qualified him as the workaholic that he was. In the past 4 years it was his role as grandfather to Finnegan that added a passionate zest to his life.
On June 10, 1972, he married Donna Meyer who survives along with their children: Nichole Matuszak (Jacob Chalik) of Wanatah & Noah Matuszak of Wanatah, and one grandson, Finnegan “Finny” Chalik.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
