Melvin E. Zeiters, Jr., 70 of Monterey, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1955 in Valparaiso, the son of Melvin E. and Fayette (Fifield) Zeiters, Sr. Melvin drove truck for many years, working for Ford Motor Company and as an independent driver. More recently, he was a property owner and landlord. Melvin loved his chickens, geese, and ducks that he raised and allowed to be free range birds. He also enjoyed attending auctions, usually for more birds.
Melvin is survived by his father, Melvin, Sr.; children, Debbra McCary, Kathy (Paul) Van Camp; Christopher (Crystal) Zeiters; Michaela Zeiters, Kevin Zeiters, and Kyle Richie; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Rita) Zeiters; sister-in-law, Riba Zeiters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fayette; sons, Melvin E. Zeiters III and Gregory Zeiters; brothers, Kendall and Alvin Zeiters; and sister, Diane Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso.

Gene was sure a beloved cousin. I have so many fond memories of playing at their house together as children. He had many painful life experiences and yet he always seemed to have an attitude of happiness when he would come to the reunions. I’m very sorry for the loss of your dear one. Uncle Gene, I will forever miss you. I am so glad I got to have you in my life and more important proud to call you my uncle. I will keep the mwmories that I went to auctions with you and my dad. LIKE the time I wanted those rabbits so bad and my dad said no next I knew you called my dad to tell him to come get the rabbits that you got for me.
