George Mowbray, Jr., 81 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He was born July 11, 1944, in Valparaiso to the late George and Myrtle (Hanner) Mowbray Sr. George attended Morgan Township High School, and made his career as a crane operator with Bethlehem Steel for 35 years. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Valparaiso. George enjoyed playing card games, especially poker, and going fishing in his spare time. He always had a great time at family karaoke nights, where he would select the music for others to sing. Family was the most important part of George’s life, and he truly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. When visiting with the grandchildren, George made it a point to always sneak them a little treat to remind them how special they were to him. He had a good sense of humor, an endless amount of dad jokes to tell, and a personality perfectly blended between loving and stern. George will be remembered as a devoted family man who always put their needs above his own. He will be dearly missed.

On September 6, 1975, George married Susan Evans, who survives, along with their 5 children: Nancy Topping of South Bend, George Mowbray III of Valparaiso, David (Jenefer) Mowbray of Bremen, KY, Mary Dunn of Muncie, and Lori (Steve) Horton of Valparaiso; 14 grandchildren: Michael, Stephanie, Destiny, Logan, Anthony, Jessica, River, Emily, Steven, Nate, Alayna, Andrew, Kaylee, and Brandon; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Norman and Merle Mowbray.
