Margaret S. Alexander, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Margaret was born to George C. and Anne S. McDonald in Chicago, Illinois on January 1, 1939. Maggi graduated from Valparaiso High School, received degrees from Indiana University, B.S. in Education, and Valparaiso University, M.S. in Education. Mrs. A taught in the Portage and Valparaiso Community Schools, Grades 4 and 5 and as a Reading Specialist at Northview and Cooks Corner Elementary Schools. Margaret’s dedication, talents and enthusiasm for education extended to the First Presbyterian Church over many years. Maggi helped establish the Presbyterian Weekday Nursery School (PWNS) over 45 years ago. She also organized and directed many of the Cherub Choir programs, taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Margaret married Walter Alexander on August 18, 1962, in the First Presbyterian Church. Walter survives, along with their sons: Robert W. Alexander of Chicago, Illinois and Kenneth S. Alexander (Melissa) and grandchildren: Abigail and Gabriel Alexander of Westchester, Ohio; brothers: James and Thomas McDonald (Ann); sisters: Georganne McDonald and Barbara Knott (David). Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends will dearly miss the joy, dedication, and enthusiasm that Margaret, Maggi, Mrs. A. shared with so many for 83 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso, IN at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Margaret’s name to: PWNS, mailed to the First Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso, IN; First Presbyterian Church, memo Scholarship; Program for Continuing Education of PEO Sisterhood; memo BO Chapter, % Karen Fritz, 3709 Westbridge Dr., Valparaiso, IN, 46383; or Riley Children’s Hospital, 750 Riley Hospital Dr., Indianapolis, IN, 46202.

To the Mcdonald and Alexander families: Maggi was my best childhood friend and continued into adulthood. She provided such energy and guidance to hundreds of kids in the Blalock subdivision vicinity circa 1959 She was our day care baby sitter in the day but much than that she helped us mature and build our character in a positive direction. Later on she became important to Pam(whitler) my late wife and I by performing the same role model for our two children Brad and Leslee at the summer nursery school ! They loved Maggi and she loved them......Thank you Maggi! I will never forget you my friend and the positive energy you shared with everyone you touched. Maggi and I lived in the same dorm at IU in1956 and that is where I first met Maggi. Our second meeting was years later. After my husband and I were married, we moved to Valpo and by surprise I saw Maggi at the grocery store and Church too. It was always a pleasure to encounter Maggi through the years cause we would reminisce about our college days at IU. I will miss Maggi and our wonderful conversations.

Mrs. Alexander was a REMARKABLE WOMAN! This Wonderful, Beautiful, Talented, Energetic Woman was so special to me and my family. Our hearts are broken, but in the same truly full for God allowing us to meet this beautiful soul 15+ years ago. Mrs. Alexander was a mentor, friend, mother, grandmother, counselor, advocate, and an angel here on earth to us and those who truly knew her. She was always there for our family. She made us all want to be better by the example she set into motion every day. She was a powerhouse advocate for education. She had the ability to make education come alive in children. She used her God given talent every single day. She was truly a treasure. She had a love of history that she shared with my husband and they could talk for hours.
