Jerry J. Punak, 68 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 19, 2023. He was born August 21, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to Andrew and Ann Marie (McConnell) Punak. Jerry along with his son Jeremy, operated PDF Appraisal Service. An avid car guy, who would spend hours in the garage working on his numerous projects, although many never did get complete. He also enjoyed his mower and making his yard and garden look beautiful, Spring being his favorite time of year. He was a collector of many things, many of them being unique and odd antiques. He also enjoyed heading to the casino to donate his hard earned money.
On August 31, 1973 Jerry married Shelley Smyth who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Melinda (Andrew) Mote, Jeremy (Nichole) Punak, and Son #2 Craig (Wanda) Cartwright; grandchildren, Madelynn, Peyton, and Jeremiah; his sister, Suzanne Punak and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by wife, Shelley, his parents and grandfather, Leionell “Mac” McConnell.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held on April 16, 2023 from 12:00-4:00 PM at 32 S Fishlake Rd, Valparaiso, IN 46385 (Lake Eliza, Opportunity Enterprises Lakeside) In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know you have lost both your parents but know that they will always be with you, watching over you and guiding you through your life. I'm so glad you had that time together doing what your dad loved with the two people he loved. I'm glad he was well enough to do it. Im very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I have lots of memories of your dad and mom growing up. He was a hard working man who loved his children. Glad you both got to spend a good day with him. I'm so sorry to hear about the unfortunate death of Jerry. My husband & I would go see him now & then in Boone Grove. He definitely loved his vehicles (black) always favorite & his mini pinscher doggy. We'll miss him much. Again sorry for your loss. - Doug & Pam Thomas
