Sara Ellen Mathews, 88 of Wanatah, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023. She was born February 18, 1935 in Trenton, Alabama to Frederick and Frances (Davis) Gipson. Sara loved spending time with her family, whether it was watching a Cubs game or cooking for a holiday gathering. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, she will be greatly missed by all that loved her.
On August 7, 1954, Sara married James Mathews who survives, along with their children: Glenda Sizemore, Chyral Smith, Rita (Terry) McKinney, Dwayne (Lousia) Mathews, Tammy Papalambros, Michael (Nita) Mathews, JoEllen (Chris) Marcinek, and DeEllen (Michael) Shope; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Marsha Mathews; sons-in-law, T.J. Sizemore, James Smith, and Nick Papalambros; grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Matthew; and twin great grandsons, Gracin and Liam.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.
