Alan Russell Smith, 70 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was born August 15, 1953, in Michigan City, IN, to John Russell Smith and Florence Catherine (Schuman) Smith. Alan graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City, and Purdue North Central in Westville. Alan made his career as a Truck Driver with Grzeszczyszyn Inc., the company he and his wife owned and operated together. When Alan wasn’t working, he enjoyed tending bar at St. Joseph Young Men’s Society in Michigan City, golfing, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame athletics. He will be remembered for his fun sense of humor, his ability to make others laugh, and his legendary cooking skills. Alan was a loving family man who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
In December of 2003, Alan married Halina (Grzeszczyszyn) Wendt, who survives, along with his children: Bailey (Chad) Lemons of Michigan City, IN, Casey Smith of Michigan City, IN, Jace (Arielle) Smith of LaPorte, IN, and Russell Witter of California; grandchildren: Chyanne, Avah, Jaxson, Austin, Kinley Sue, Kobe, Storie, Averie, Adrian, and Gia; and great-grandchildren: Ezra and Dario; brothers: William Siebe, Mike Siebe, Terry (Linda) Siebe, all of Newton, TX; nephews: James (Martha) Hodges and Robert “Bob” (Frances) Siebe; great-niece, Justice Hodges; great-nephew, James Hodges, Jr.; and many loving extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Smith; mother, Florence Hossler; brother, Richard Siebe; and sister, Mary Jane Siebe.
In accordance with Alan’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
