Allen Bennett Ludington, Jr., 78 of North Judson, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born April 10, 1945, in Valparaiso to the late Allen B. and Vivian Eileen (McLaughlin) Ludington, Sr. Al made his career as a Fireman with Bethlehem Steel, retiring as a Captain. He also volunteered at the Liberty Township Fire Department, and was a member of the Porter Masonic Lodge #137, earning membership as a 33 degree mason. Al was a talented carpenter and woodworker, who built entire homes and could make anything. He enjoyed fishing, his pet chickens, and his beloved family. Al was a people person who could make a friend out of any stranger. He will be remembered as a no-nonsense guy with a generous heart. Al was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed.
On June 20, 1981, in Liberty Township, Al married the love of his life, Linda Rieckermann, who survives, along with children: Victoria (Doug Lowery) Ludington of Chesterton, Rob Hunt of Valparaiso, Tammy (Billy Alger) Hunt of Medaryville, Jennifer Hunt-Wentz of Crown Point, Mark Kara of Hobart; grandchildren: Arthur, Luke, Coral, Courtney, Haleigh, Felicia, Jaden, and Kloe; great-grandchildren: Breena and Harloe; and sisters: Barbara Pryatel and Beverly (Tim) Schwab. He was preceded in death by brother, Dennis Ludington, and sister, Catherine Keen.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Kosanke Funeral Home (new location), 309 S. Main St., Kouts, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Ludington Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Kouts American Legion Post 301, 959 W. Indiana St., Kouts, IN. Memorial donations may be made in Al’s name to Ludington Cemetery, to assist in caring for the family cemetery which meant so much to Al. Al was a light and a joy. He had such a sense of humor and always had a story to tell. We were so lucky to have known him and have had him touch our lives . We will truly miss him .
