Angeline Zaharias, 88, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Monday, March 11, 2024. She was born May 25, 1935, in Gary, IN to the late George Michael Boukis and Katherine (Panagiotis) Boukis. Angeline graduated from Emerson High School in Gary, and made her career working in the Assessor’s Office in Gary, as a Secretary for Monarch Oil in Hobart, and later as the Secretary of St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church. She was a founding member of St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church, where she had been a member of the choir and Ladies Philoptochos Society. Angeline was devoted to her family, and especially loved caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her generous nature and servant’s heart. Angeline was a beloved wife, mother, yiayia, and big yiayia who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
On October 8, 1955, in Gary, Angeline married Nick Zaharias, who preceded her in death in 2019. She is survived by their children: John (Janet) Zaharias of Valparaiso, Katherine (Scott Ellis) Zaharias-Ellis of San Bruno, CA, George Zaharias of Valparaiso; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Michael Boukis. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sue Zaharias, and sister-in-law, Sandy Boukis.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Trisagion Service at 4:30 PM. The funeral service will begin on Saturday at 11:30 AM at St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church, 36 W. 700 N., Valparaiso, with Rev. Fr. James Greanias officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
