Anthony Mark Fonce “Tony”, 73, of Hebron passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was born May 6, 1952, in Frosinone, Italy to become the son of Carmen & Madaline (Vadino) Fonce. Tony graduated from Portage High School in 1972 where he played football and enjoyed journalism. Tony began his career with the EJ & E Railroad in Gary before beginning a part-time job as a Hebron Reserve Police Officer. This began his 25-year career in 1978 with the Hebron Police Department where he rose from Patrolman to Seargent to Lieutenant to Captain to Detective before being named Chief. Tony established AMF Detective Agency in 2002. His time at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield IN from 1987 – 89 prepared him well for the career that he loved.
Tales of his snowmobiling trips to Michigan and Wisconsin and local snowmobiling during the winter months have become legendary. The deer hunting excursions to Virginia were always eagerly anticipated.
On April 8, 1988, he married Laura L. Akers who survives along with their son, Anthony Mark (Kacie Ford) Fonce, II of Crown Point, and grandson, Tate Anthony Fonce. Also, sister, Charmaine (Zachary) Wheat of Ohio, niece, Justin Bee (Corey McGovney) of Florida, and great nieces & nephews: Jonathon, Jordan & Dominic McGovney and Dylan Fleming of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Shana Fleming of Ohio and in-laws Donald H. and Gertrude L. (Osenga) Akers of Hebron.
An Open House celebration of Tony’s life will be held Saturday, May 9th, 2026, at the Lakes of the 4 Seasons Clubhouse, 1048 N. Lakeshore Dr, Crown Point, IN 46307, from 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm. Remarks begin at 12:30pm: Chief Ryan Patrick, Crown Point Police Department and Pastor Thomas Clark, Salem United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Tony’s family for a local charity yet to be chosen.
