April Lee Livingstone, 68 of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Sturgis, MI, passed away Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born October 11, 1956, in Gary, IN to the late Frank and Phyllis (Guertin) Rea. April graduated high school and went on to own and operate Arjay’s Bait and Tackle in Sturgis. In addition to the bait shop, April ran the front restaurant, Adlebeans, and took care of their rental houses. She later became a home healthcare aide, which was a fulfilling career for April because she was always caring for others. Outside of work, April loved gardening, crafting, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. April will be remembered as a strong, loving, and generous woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
April is survived by her sons: Tommy (Tabatha Franks) Hemminger of Gas City, IN, Michael (Angel) Hemminger of Mishawaka, IN, and Gary Miller of Portage, IN; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Frank Rea, Mary (Raoul) Navarro, Pamela (Randy) Jones, Paula (Jim) Nowak, and William (Shona) Rea. She was preceded in death by her sister, Christine Wilson; and infant sister, Donna Sue Rea.
A celebration of April’s life will be held on November 1, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. CST at Valley Baptist Church, 255 Rigg Rd., Valparaiso, IN 46383. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in April’s name to Riley Children’s Hospital.
