Armenio “Max” Duran, 83 of Hobart, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025. He was born November 30, 1941, in Walsenburg, Colorado to the late Maliqias Lupino Duran and Estafana (Archuleta Montoya) Duran. Max proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to a career as a Crane Operator, retiring in 1998 from Inland Steel. Max was very handy around the house with construction, plumbing and electrical work, and he extended those services to his family, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Max always had a joke to tell, and a wonderful sense of humor to go with it. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

On July 1, 1972, at the Holy Rosary Church in Gary, Max married Angela Villarruel, who survives, along with their children: Melissa (Brian) Frye of Norfolk, VA, and Steve (Lili) Duran of Lake Station, IN; grandchildren: Evan Frye, Noehmi Lopez, and Sophia Duran; 5 sisters; numerous nieces and nephews, including: Bobby Perez, Kathy Perez, Anita Perez, Teresa Sears, and Tony Perez Jr.; and Godson, Chris Moreno. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

A celebration of Max’s life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 100, 1899 Central Avenue, Lake Station, IN, 46405.
