Barbara J. Pumroy, 86 of Kouts, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was born September 13, 1939, at home in Kouts to the late Herbert and Thelma (Hyatte) Haman. Barb graduated from Kouts High School in 1957, and proudly made her career as a farmer with her husband, Russ, at Pumroy Farms. Barb was a tough farm girl and farm wife, who could whip up a delicious meal from scratch and deliver those homemade meals to the field for her husband and friends. She was a talented seamstress, tidy homemaker, and selfless caregiver for others. Barb was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She also volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels for the Visiting Nurse Association for 30 years. Barb will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

On June 29, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kouts, Barbara married Charles “Russ” Pumroy, who preceded her in death in 2023. She is survived by their children: Scott (JoAnn) Pumroy of Sycamore, IL, Lisa (Doug) DeFries of Kouts, and Dina Mueller of Kouts; grandchildren: Krystina (Coleman Metz) Bakaturski, Ryan (Kerith Woodyard) Pumroy, Danielle DeFries, Dr. Nicole DeFries, and Russell (Liz) Mueller; great-grandchildren: Lucas, Addyson, and Ellie Bakaturski; brothers: Harold Haman, Melvin (Barb) Haman, Fred (Carol) Haman; sister-in-law, Chris Haman; and brother-in-law, Fred (Mary) Pumroy. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Carlson; brother, Paul Richard “Dick” Haman; and sister-in-law, Marlene Haman.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 507 S. Rose Ave., Kouts, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m., Pastor Brian Westgate officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
