Barry Allan Hengstler - August 24, 1946 to August 23, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Allan Hengstler, who departed from this world on August 23, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born on August 24, 1946, in Richmond, IN, and was a devoted husband, loving parent and grandparent, a caring brother, an outstanding uncle, and a beloved friend.
Barry led a life of love, integrity, and hard work. He started his career in the United States Army. After graduating from Indiana University Kelly School of Business, he eventually became a leader in the metals industry. His entrepreneurial spirit and his joy of sharing his knowledge with others led him to find success serving as a consultant and mentor later in his career.
Though Barry was successful in his work-life endeavors, he truly was in his element as a family man. His family benefitted from his wisdom, kindness, generosity, and humor. He was known for his dad jokes and enjoyed soliciting the family eye-roll upon delivery. He established many family traditions, especially around the holidays - baking cookies and setting up over 100 Dickens Houses and at least three Christmas trees to make his kids and, eventually, his grandkids believe in Christmas magic.
Barry loved and appreciated all kinds of music. In his youth, he performed with his brothers -first as a tap-dancing troupe and later drumming with their band, the Humbugs. Additionally, he played in band and orchestra at Richmond High School. Beyond performing, Barry was always happy to share his gifts, teaching both drum and dance lessons. If you found yourself in the car with Barry, you would be treated to him singing all the greatest hits with lyrics of his choice. In later years, you would find Barry sitting, with a big smile, in a school auditorium, softball field, and rock concert, supporting all his grandchildren in their sporting, performance, and educational endeavors.
The family takes comfort that Barry’s unyielding faith in God will serve as his steadfast guardian that will allow him to transcend the mortal boundaries that limited him later in his life. They also take solace in that one day, all will be reunited.
He is survived by his wife Camilla (Consolino) Hengstler, his children Erika (Marc) Huber, Bob (Danielle) Hengstler, Joe (Megan) Hengstler; 6 grandchildren Camilla Huber, Daniel Huber, Sofia Huber, Taylor Rosenbaum, Olivia Rosenbaum, and Juniper Hengstler, and his brother, Doug Hengstler. In these family members, he leaves a legacy of love and immense pride. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Hengstler, his mother, India Hengstler, and brothers Michael Hengstler, Fredrick Hengstler, and Dennis Hengstler.
The gathering in memory of Barry Allan Hengstler will be held on Monday, August 28th with visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN with service beginning at 6:00 PM
Barry believed that children should not suffer. In honor of this belief, the family requests all donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Toys for Tots.
