Bernadine “Bonnie” Babcock, 93 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023. She was born May 12, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana to William O. and Margaret L. (O’Connor) Funston, Sr. Bonnie loved her time in Florida and stayed active with swimming, walks on the beach, and bike rides. She also found enjoyment in nature and reading, but most of all Bonnie loved spending time with family.
On September 24, 1950, Bonnie married Robert L. Babcock, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2020. She is survived by her children, Robert L. (Geralyn) Babcock, Jr., Carrie (William) Schmitt, and Lori (David) Meyne; grandchildren, Jaclyn, Bobby, Brian, Larry, Elizabeth, Steven, Kimberly, Ryan, David Jr., Kyle and Kevin, 15 great-grandchildren, and her special niece, Kate Kratkoczki. Bonnie was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, William O. Funston, Jr.
A private service was held, with burial at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
