Bernard J. Ernst, Sr., 85 of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023. He was born August 18, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Charles and Caroline (Fumo) Ernst, Sr. Bernard was the most kind, caring, gentle, and loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was a huge Cubs fan that never missed a game, an avid bowler, great dancer, and loved sitting out in the sun. A lover of food, Bernard was fond of sweets and Chicago style hot dogs. Most of all, he will be remembered for being a devoted father and grandfather.
Bernard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jacqueline on November 3, 2000. He is survived by his son, Bernard (Kimberly) Ernst, Jr.; grandchildren, Courtney Shaw, Samuel Shaw, and Kaitlyn Ernst; great granddaughter, Chloe Shaw; and nephew, Chuck (Kim) Watson. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mae, Charles, Jr., and Toni.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the donor’s cancer research organization of choice.
