Betty Mockler, 84 of Wanatah, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024. She was born May 20, 1940, in Gray Court, SC, to the late James and Laller (Hendricks) Smith. Betty made her career as a Supervisor of Inspection at Anderson Company in Gary and Michigan City, IN for 35 years before retirement. She was also a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah. Betty enjoyed bowling, and spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren, sons, and pets. You knew where you stood with Betty due to her direct communication skills, and her feisty personality. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Graves of Wanatah, IN; sons: Jason (Sylvia) Redden of Ft. Wayne, IN, Donald (Debbie) Redden of Tomball, TX, and Ronald (Carmen) Redden of Valparaiso, IN; stepsons: Mark Mockler and Scott Mockler; grandchildren: Christina (Andy) Butcher, Kelly (Tim) Brown, Daniel (Callie Thompson) Redden, Michael Redden, and Jennifer Redden; great-grandchildren: Leo Butcher, Lorelei Butcher, Jayce Redden, and Mason Redden; and sisters: Barbara (Wayne) Morrison, Carolyn (Richard) Johnson, and Viola (Tony) Goodenough; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jason Redden, and her second husband, James “Augie” Mockler.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St., Wanatah, IN. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., Father Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA of NWI.
