Beverly Jean Nowak, 77 of Valparaiso, Indiana, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024. She was born March 9, 1947, in Chicago, to Albert and Shirley (Weinberger) McLeish. Bev was a devoted wife and homemaker, and in recent years, a loving caregiver to her beloved husband, James. She expressed her creativity through art, and had an artistic talent for color, which was showcased in her paintings and interior decorating. Bev also taught ceramics, took voice lessons, and loved singing.
On September 5, 1970, Bev married James A. Nowak, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2024. Bev is survived by her sister, Ellen (Ernie) Madaras of Hemet, California; brother, Glenn (Annette) McLeish of St. John, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Marge Nowak and Diane Gruger; brother-in-law, John Nowak; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Dana Madaras; and five beloved “fur babies”: Benji, Raleigh, Emma, Hannah, and Finnegan.
Following cremation, Bev and James will be laid to rest together, privately. Memorial donations may be made in Bev’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
